Thomas J. Giordano, MD, PhD, is the Ronald Nishiyama M.D. Research Professor of Pathology and Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School. He serves as a leading expert in endocrine oncology and molecular pathology, holding key administrative roles as the Director of Molecular and Genomic Pathology and the Director of the Tissue and Molecular Core at the Rogel Cancer Center.
His research and clinical practice are primarily focused on the molecular characterization of endocrine tumors, including those of the thyroid and adrenal glands. He has played a significant role in large-scale genomic initiatives, notably co-chairing projects for The Cancer Genome Atlas to improve the classification and diagnosis of cancers through genomic profiling. Beyond his university roles, he has served on the Board of Directors for the American Thyroid Association.
Dr. Giordano earned his medical and doctoral degrees through a combined program at Rutgers University and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 1990. He subsequently completed his residency in Anatomic Pathology and a specialized fellowship in Oncologic Pathology.
