Dr. Kristine Elizabeth Konopka, MD, is a board-certified anatomic and clinical pathologist and Clinical Associate Professor at University of Michigan Health. She currently serves as the Chief of Thoracic Pathology and Director of the Thoracic Pathology Fellowship program, specializing in the diagnosis of both neoplastic and non-neoplastic lung diseases, including rare conditions like lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM). Her clinical practice involves managing complex surgical pathology cases and providing intraoperative frozen section consultations to guide real-time surgical decisions.
Dr. Konopka earned her medical degree from the Temple University School of Medicine in 2008 and completed her pathology residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. She joined the University of Michigan faculty in 2014 following a specialized thoracic pathology fellowship. In addition to her clinical work, she is a dedicated medical educator, previously serving as the Director of the Pathology Residency Program and currently holding the position of Director of Medical Student Clinical Clerkships in Pathology. Her research focuses on translational thoracic pathology and the development of educational curricula for medical trainees. As of 2025, she remains an active member of the Pathology Outlines editorial board for thoracic pathology.
